D.C. Members Fix Rural Trout Stream

A half-dozen corps members spent 10 days repairing structures along a creek reserved for fly fishing. 

May 19, 1993

Volunteers Participate in Anacostia River Clean-Up

Earth Conservation Corps worked with 10 volunteers to pull 4,000 tires and tons of oversized trash from the Anacostia River.

City Youths Nurse Birds to Health

Earth Conservation Corps caretakers share their experiences caring for baby bald eagles as part of a project to help eaglets return to the wild.

Summer 1996

Urban Eangles on the Way

Founder & Board Co-Chair Bob Nixon and members moved four Great Lakes eaglets into new homes as part of a five-year program to bring bald eagles back to D.C.

Returning Eagles to D.C.

The 8-week-old chicks have moved into new digs here - a riverfront nest in a tall poplar tree. 

"Fifty years is too long for our nation's bird not to be nesting in our nation's capital," said Nixon.

An Eco-Friendly Roof is Installed

ECC installs a pump house green roof, the first in the Washington D.C. area, that can retain stormwater runoff and reduce the urban heat island phenomenon.

Damon Whitehead Champions D.C.'s Often Overlooked River

Salmon Corps, an environmental service organization by ECC for Native Americans, receives the nation's highest honor for volunteer service. 

October 26, 2003

Endgangered in Anacostia

Diamond Teague, a 19-year-old African American from Anacostia who completed a service program with Earth Conservation Corps, was murdered on October 9, 2003.
